Welcome! If you're new to my blog, let me fill you in... I'm participating in a 21 Day Challenge, aimed at getting regular women to spread their fashion wings a bit. Today is the third day. I think Day One and Day Two went really well. Today? Meh...Not so much.
Today's prompt was "Mix Patterns". This is one aspect of the challenge I was really looking forward to, especially after seeing this pattern mix outfit on The Pleated Poppy:

Isn't that just so pretty an unexpected? Lovely. Just lovely. Okay, the end!
Wait, what?
I have to show you my pattern mix outfit? I'll apologize in advance.

Even the look on my face says, "I feel like a circus clown."
I'm not a big fan of the outfit I put together today, but I worked with what I had. I do, however, like the pattern mix idea. I'm going to check out the other Challenge participants' day three outfits for inspiration, which I am sure to find...they're awesome...and maybe work in another pattern mix outfit before the Challenge is over. I like the stripes, so I might try a smaller print next time.

What do you think? I'd really love some constructive criticism on this one.
Hi Jamie, thanks for the comment on my day two outfit. You really should check out Oswald West (in Oregon), it's worth the drive! I think your pattern mixing works really well because of the blacks. I really struggled with today's prompt and tried not to feel like a circus clown too. Ah, well, at least we're getting out of that comfort zone right?
ReplyDeleteI like it! Because the base colors are black, it looks put together.
ReplyDeleteThis was a hard one! I think it's better than you think it is- plus, it shows off your cute legs!
ReplyDeleteAwww, you do NOT look like a circus clown! You look cute!! I really want a black & white striped shirt because I feel like that's the best way to start mixing stripes and flowers. You're cute!
ReplyDeleteHi Jamie! Thanks so much for your sweet comment yesterday!
ReplyDeleteBtw, you do NOT look like a circus clown! I think it's cute! :o) I hear you though on this being a toughie. I saw a bunch of inspiration that I liked but did I have any of those pieces or anything even remotely similar in my closet? Notta! Looks like I am gonna have to keep my eye out for some patterns the next time I go shopping!
Love it, so cute. THanks for your sweet comment, again!
ReplyDeleteI love the stripes! I'm jealous that you were able to pull this off. I feel like I got dressed in the dark this morning...even though I loved the combination! You just need to own your mix. Own it! :) :)
ReplyDeleteI like the stripes, but maybe if they were narrower it wouldn't seem so startling to you?
ReplyDeleteYou look great, Jamie! I love the stripes and floral along with those darling shoes. You rock!
ReplyDeleteI think the mix looks fine, although you're right, a smaller floral might feel more cohesive. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your comment on my day two outfit. :)
hahaha, i love your "circus clown" comment! i think you look super cute! but hey, if you're not feeling it, then you won't feel like you're able to pull it off. half of an outfit is how it makes you feel. tomorrow's a new day :)
ReplyDeletebut seriously, i think it works & you look adorable :)
Both pattern mixes are great! I especially like the second photo. My only suggestion would be to maybe tuck the striped shirt in and then belt it?
ReplyDeleteThe cardigan in the top photo is awesome! I am so envious. I need one of those :)
Heather
I actually like your outfit a lot. I agree with the above commenter who said that if the stripes were maybe a bit more narrow, it might not feel so scary.
ReplyDeleteThe blacks definitely tie the two patterns together, and I really like the red shoes with it. Not remotely clownish. Maybe the stripes kind of take over, though, since we don't see as much of the floral? So I think Heather might be on to something with the tuck in idea.
ReplyDeleteYou definitely don't look like a circus clown. I think you look great! I love that you wore your dress as a skirt.
ReplyDeleteNice gams! I think you did a marvelous job on the challenge. Other make it look so effortless, don't they?
